I can remember, even as a little child, leaving the house with my father
to pick out our wonderful Holiday Tree. We would either
cut one down ourselves or go to the
YMCA in Cortland New York. They had Holiday Trees
lined up out front and we had our pick if we went early enough.
Now in Roanoke my girlfriend and I are going out this weekend to pick up our Holiday Tree,
and decorate it with many little Holiday decorations. WHAT'S WRONG WITH THAT STORY??? I'll tell you what's wrong...
The City of Roanoke! A tree at Christmas is not a Holiday Tree...It's a
CHRISTMAS tree. But for some reason
Someone's decided to officially change the name of the tree Downtown to Roanoke's Holiday Tree. What would the reason be behind that kind of a decision? Is someone trying not to offend certain citizens of the valley?
Has the city received thousands of complaints about our Christmas tradition? I would venture a guess that
it has not. Never the less, Nelson Harris has even decided to go against his own religion and
AGREE WITH THE DECISION. Here's his input courtesy of WFIR Radio.
MAYOR NELSON HARRIS CLAIMS ROANOKE IS A DIVERSE COMMUNITY...AND THE TERM "HOLIDAY" RESPECTS THE AREA'S MANY BACKGROUNDS. HARRIS--WHO IS A BAPTIST MINISTER--SAYS HE HAS NO INTENTIONS OF PUTTING THE "CHRISTMAS" BACK IN ROANOKE'S CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY.
How about we don't put a tree up at all to respect the area's many backgrounds? Political Correctness has gone too far.
