Thank God For Bad Ideas

What would I have to talk about today if it weren't for the Roanoke City Council talking about building two football stadiums at the city High Schools instead of building something the city can actually use?

The newest idea the council has come up with is scrapping the Victory Stadium renovation and going for two football stadiums. The plan would cost 8.5 million dollars. This is like choosing one bad idea over another.

I hate the idea of renovating a run down stadium that is in a flood plain. But at least that plan would be something the majority of the city could enjoy...That is if the city could bring in some musical acts and other entertainment.

The high school football fields would sit dormant in the summer time. They would be used by a small group of parents and football players while the 20 to 35 age group sat at home wishing they had something fun to do.

By the way, people are already complaining. Name another city in this country that would stop a stadium from being built just because a couple dozen people in the community would be bothered by the lights and sounds of football games.

Hey Roanoke City Council, build a multi-use facility that would host high school football, festivals, and concerts we can only dream of, and I promise most of the city would be happy. Then again the few people that do hate the idea would probably convince you to change your collective mind after three walls are standing.

Why Have We Not Heard About This?

The Roanoke Times had an article over the weekend about the Burger King on Franklin Road. Apparently a man says he found a rodent tail in his burger.

When I heard this news I was disgusted. I had eaten there two days before the lawsuit was filed. But that's not the worst part. THE BURGER THAT ALLEGEDLY HAD THE RAT TAIL IN IT WAS FOUND IN AUGUST.

Why was this not in the news until now? Why have people eaten at that restaurant for more than a month and a half without knowing what could have happened there? WHY DO FINGERS IN A BURGER MAKE THE NATIONAL NEWS BUT NOT A RODENT TAIL? I'd much rather eat someone's finger than a rat.

WINNER!!!

We have a winner in the KisforKat.com NASCAR Quiz for NASCAR Tix contest.

Chad Young of Paychecks Plus in Roanoke
correctly answered this question.

In What position will Jimmie Johnson start the Nextel Cup race at Lowe's Motor Speedway on Saturday October 15th?

The correct answer is..."The back of the pack."

Several people said he's starting third. That is where he qualified but because of engine trouble in practice he'll start at the back

Chad is the winner of a nice hot fresh pair of tickets to the Dollar General 300 Busch Series Race at Lowe's Motor Speedway tonight

Thanks to all that participated.

A New Roanoke...Not So Much

In a step toward the "New South," The city hired a firm to come up with some ideas to make Roanoke look new again.

I love it. The market looks almost like New Orleans with balconies that extend over little outdoor sitting areas. There is a trolley system and a theatre. It's everything anybody who loves this city would want. It's just too bad it'll never happen.

I hate to be negative about this town. I love Roanoke and I want to raise a family here. But history has shown that there is a group of people that will never allow something new.

It's the same group of people who fought hard to kill plans of a new stadium amphitheatre when the land was cleared and construction ready to roll. All of the optimism in the world will not bring these plans to fruition.

New Orleans in Roanoke? Even the mere mention of that city is sure to bring fear to the people who sit on there front step and pray that the view across the street remains the same.

The Roanoke Times article mentions that the city would like to move fast with these plans. It says the city hopes to set aside money in the next budget to start construction. That may be...but really knowing this town means you know that the final version of this project will mean power washing the existing buildings and giving them a new coat of paint.

This Is Bull$#!T

I mean really! What do we have to do to get the damn gas prices to go down? Oil barrel prices are lower than they've been any time since August fifth and still we're paying 2.89 for a gallon of crappy gas. I don't remember gas prices being 2.89 on August fifth.

So where are we getting screwed? Who is it that's getting all of the money off of this? Why isn't the government stepping in and telling oil companies to knock the prices down? We're being legally price gouged.
