The Drive to Drive

Sometimes I just get that feeling. Like I want to drive forever and just see where the road takes me. That was yesterday morning. I wanted to hop in the car and go until the wheels fell off.

I figured I should have some kind of direction so I looked online to find a neat place to eat somewhere in Southwest Virginia. No luck. So I started searching for the most cool looking place.

I wanted to head out to Appalachia but I figured three and a half hours was just too much driving for a day trip. I picked Hot Springs.

It's a nice place but not quite as run down and rural as I wanted. I like the look of old houses with rocking chairs on them and kids in tattered shorts running through a sprinkler. That's not what I found.

It was fun though. A nice relaxing drive through the mountains. Too bad Hot Springs doesn't have any kind of small local restaurant open for lunch and I had to settle for Subway.

Here are some pictures.

VACATION!!!!

It's finally here. I don't have to go back to work or even worry about a radio show for two weeks. Thank God!

I always made fun of Danny for taking vacations and staying at home. But after two or three years of waking up at 2:30AM I'm finally at the point where I just want some rest. I'm heading to the lake this weekend and you're welcome to come if you'd like. Just E-mail me.

After the lake I'm spending the week in Roanoke with my lovely girlfriend. I can't wait to eat out on a weeknight or sleep in until 10AM.

I'm free!

Old Pictures

Is it just me or do pictures from years before look horrible. I'm not talking quality. I mean when you look back at pictures of yourself you always look bad.

Today I figured I'd go to the website of the film production summer school I went to in Petersburg in 2000. (Southern Mistique Film Camp) They had pictures of the year I went and I figured I'd check them out. Boy I look bad. Maybe you think I look exactly the same...If you do, don't tell me.

Here they are...You can click to make them larger.

Summertime Blues

Is it like this for everyone? That summer is great in the spring...but once the spring is over...so is summer.

I'll explain.

The anticipation of June through August was great in March and April. I couldn't wait until it was 90 degrees and I could head out on the lake with friends. We went out a couple times in those two months but it wasn't the same as those hot summer days. But when summer came...so did the obligations.

Maybe it's just the radio business but I have so many things to do on weekends now that I can't go to the lake. I am tired from work on the weekend nights and I just want to sleep.

Now it feels like the summer is over. I have plans that don't include the lake every weekend day for the next month. Fall will be here soon and I'll probably have time to do some fun things then, but what the hell happened to summer?

Assholes

We all thought it was over...Until this morning.

When something happens overseas it's very easy to put it to the side, Not think about it, Continue watching American Idol or Dancing with the Stars and forget about the whole thing. It's not that easy when it happens in London.

Britain may as well be the US. As a friend said today "they are our best friend." She was right. Who else do we have in this world that will give us that kind of support?

A terrorist attack on them is an attack on us. This is the second time WE have been attacked like this. It took 4 years but, as promised, it happened again.

Once again we are afraid to do things. The fear will not last as long this time. The period of mourning will not hold and the economic downturn will recover quickly. But it will happen for the third time and it will be just as shocking.

Today I found myself sitting at a stoplight staring at a blue and white Roanoke City bus. I sat there and thought about the people on it. I have never been on a Roanoke bus and it still scared the hell out of me to think that it could just explode. The guy behind me had to honk to get me moving. It took a little bit and I got back to thinking about my day and what work I had yet to do. The UK and the US will get back to normal after this. But as much as Tony Blair says we will prevail...The terrorist attacks will never stop.

Who needs the middle east. I call for another Shock and Awe.
