Down Home Gossip

I always love it when I get to put up something local that people will care about. It seems too often that unless you live in Los Angeles or New York you don't get any exciting local news. Well today is the day for people in Roanoke. It seems our beloved Police Chief has fallen on some hard times.

WSLS - TV is reporting that Chief Gaskins went down to Virginia Beach for some reason...and at some point during the trip, his estranged wife showed up where he was staying. She claims he pushed her down the stairs. He says she then went outside and smashed the windows out of his car. The Next day she pressed charges and now Chief Gaskins has a warrant out for his arrest.

I don't know the Chief personally but I have talked to him several times as a reporter for a news station I work for.

Memories Forgotten

I went camping for the first time in probably four years this weekend. Heather, Craig, Missy and I went to Lake Robertson which is right near Lexington. It's a little fishing lake that's kept up by the VDGIF. We stayed in the campground and most of our time was taken up by cooking...But that was a lot of fun. I forgot how much I like the smell of woodsmoke and summer together in the same breath. In boyscouts we used to do that all the time...But I guess the chances to go camping as an adult come few and far between.

Here are some pictures from the trip. They start off with pictures of K92's Lake Party at Smith Mountain Lake this weekend. You can click on any of the pictures for a larger version.

It's Time to Party

I haven't had much time to keep up this website recently. Mainly because we've been in a ratings period. That ended today!!!

Basically that means we have most weekends off, we can take vacation finally, and we have more fun. Summer time begins for people in Roanoke radio today!

FOOLED!!!

So if you didn't take the survey I posted a couple of days ago, you don't know...But if you did, you may be a little nervous right about now.

Crush007.com is a survey that tricks people. If someone sends it to you, and you fill it out, it sends the answers back to the person who sent it. So they now know all of the answers to questions like "who's your biggest crush" and "Name a friend you're attracted to."

If you took the test on my website, I have all of the information I need to blackmail you. But I won't. Please, if you filled it out here, don't worry. The info will not get to anyone except for me. It's not saved on my computer and it is not going to be published on this website. It was fun looking at the inner thoughts of people I didn't know, and some that I do...But it's for nobody's eyes but mine.

And would it have killed at least one of you to just say I was the friend you are attracted to? I mean come on!

Survey Says

I hate mass e-mails and those stupid surveys that people e-mail to me. But this was freaky. I got this in an e-mail and it was so right I had to close the page because it scared me.

Check it out HERE.

And by the way...it only takes a second.

My Weekend

No lake this past weekend...Just sitting on the couch and watching Missy clean up the apartment. Good times had by all. I still thought you might enjoy the pictures.

The Verdict is in...

In a waste of millions and millions of dollars, Michael Jackson was found not guilty on all counts. I can't believe he wasn't even caught on the charges of giving alcohol to minors. CLICK HERE to get more info on the verdict.

Thunderstorm Season...Leave us Alone

I love summer time but we haven't had much of it. It's been about two weeks on HOT weather and now we're back into overcast and cooler.

What the heck is happening? By now we should have had a couple of days in the nineties but we haven't had one. I know I complain about the weather a lot but how about a long stretch of 80's and 90's? Am I asking for too much?

Do You Remember The Time...

...when Michael Jackson was a normal guy?

Neither do I but that time did exist, and now he's become a raving lunatic who has health problems and "loves children." The Jury is deliberating and they will come back with a decision any day now.

The odd thing for me is not how crazy he's become. We all know how Michael Jackson is and we don't make a big fuss out of it anymore. The odd thing is that there are still people who love him. There are still people who wait outside the court house and hold up signs supporting him.

This is a man who sleeps with children that are not his own. Not that being outside the norm is always crazy...But that is going a little too far. He has a place called Neverland where he has sleepover parties with kids.

It doesn't matter if you think he's guilty or innocent, this man is out there. You may like the music he used to make but why would you support someone who shares a bed with kids? In my mind if you support Michael Jackson you are just as crazy as he is.

Wasp Attack

So I'm sitting in my bedroom with no shirt on because it's got to be above 90 up here. We've got a four bedroom house that doesn't have the best air conditioning system in the world. I'm at my computer just updating this website when all of the sudden...

bzzzzz....bzzzzzz....bzzzzzz

I hear it coming so I look around...

bzzzz...zzzzzzz.....bzzzzzzz

It's a wasp. And it's coming right at me. I hate wasps and bees. They all scare me even though I haven't been stung by one in probably ten or more years.

So this thing comes right up and lands on my arm. Right on my hairy shoulder area. (I know...too much information) So I flick the thing off and now it's in attack mode coming at me full speed. I grab my shoe off the ground and try to hit it in the air but that only makes it madder.

Finally I make contact and the damn thing falls to the ground but this is no ordinary wasp. This thing knows it's going down and it wants to take me with it. So it makes one final dash at glory heading straight for my head. It's too close to swing the shoe, too late to duck out of the way so with my bare hand I swat.

BAM! Direct hit and I'm safe....

...Or so I thought.

The wasp was still alive but barely. I found it an hour later and killed it with my shoe and this time I flushed it down the toilet. Now I feel like a crazy person having run all around my bedroom just trying to kill a wasp.

Religion From The Outside

It's a little weird going to a funeral for a woman you don't know, but you do it to help a friend through a tough time. I went last night to the funeral of the mother of a co-worker and friend. The service was filled with memories of the person she was. It was filled with hope for a better life for all of us after we die. It was filled with tears. But it was also filled with an out of place guilt trip and a forceful push for us all to become Baptists.

I am a Catholic but I have been to a Baptist Church or two. My girlfriend is Baptist and at Virginia Heights Baptist Church in Roanoke I've always felt welcome and I've never been pushed to join the church. In fact I've never felt uncomfortable in another church until last night.

Toward the end of the service the preacher asked everyone to bow their heads in prayer. He prayed for us all to find the lord, and then it took a turn. He said it was the woman's wish for us all to be saved. He then told us to raise our hands if we want to go to heaven and be with the lord. He went on to talk about how much money the woman had given to the church...Not once or twice or three times...He brought it up every chance he got.

His inflection and words made it sound like he was saying this woman has died, and she wants us to join this church, and if we don't we're being somehow rude to the deceased. And after we join the church we should give all of our money to the church.

Funerals are a place to cry, and remember the person who's passed. They are not a place to try to force membership, or ask you to open your wallet.

Several people at work that went to the service commented today that that's the way Baptist funerals and services are. That's not true, but now I know why they think that.

(note: I did not put the name of the church out of respect for the family.)
