Winter is Here...In March

Finally the snow came...And in a big way. Here at the Kat Kompound we've got 7 and a half inches, and the snow is still falling. This is the largest snowfall I've seen since being in Roanoke. Back in the winter of 2000 in Richmond we had about this much if not more. I love it. Snow is the only thing I miss from living in upstate NY. Here are some pictures. You can click on any of them to see the larger version. Enjoy!

A tree in my front yard.

My roommate's SUV was stuck halfway in the road and he got a flat tire to boot.

Is it wrong that I stole my Girlfriend's car since she's out of town and she's got four wheel drive?

Down my street. We're always the last to get plowed. Just before taking this shot a car slid backwards down the hill.

Up my street. It's pretty hilly.

My wonderful view out the back of the house. There's a little valley that looks wonderful when it snows.

Go Speedracer!

I love this time of year. . .and if you had told me ten years ago that at age 22 I'd be sitting in Roanoke, VA, drinking a beer, and getting ready to watch a Nascar race I'd tell you to get the heck out of my face.

I lived in Cortland, NY and I hated Nascar. It was the dumbest thing in the world to me and if you'd asked me about it, I'm sure you'd hear me say "who would want to watch cars go around in a circle for four hours?" Now I realise exactly who would want to do that...ME!

As I type this I'm watching Raceline of Fox. It's the worst Nascar show that exists TV, but I can't get enough. One of the reporters is talking about Daytona and I've got chills. There are only two things I get that ecstatic about...Nascar, and hunting.

A friend of mine asked me this question yesterday. "Good God, Does nascar last all year long?" The answer...No, but I sure wish it did.

GO JIMMIE JOHNSON #48!

My New Thing

Everyone's got a "thing." Whatever they're famous for...or even known for in a small group of friends. Well I've got a new "thing." I want to be internet famous.

There are several ways to become internet famous and I'm up for trying pretty much anything. Just last week this kid became internet famous for singing a song and dancing at his computer. He was featured on Good Morning America. In this case he became more than internet famous. I don't need that but it would be a perk. Over the next week or so I will try several things to become internet famous.

Internet Famous - Having your likeness or creation make it's rounds on several internet sites devoted to funny things.

Examples of sites. College Humor, Ebaum's World, Fark

If you'd like to, you can give me some ideas on how to become internet famous and I will try them. Please post ideas by posting a comment CLICK HERE.

Hell

No bars, no downtown Nashville, no fun...at all.

  • First I drove 20 miles out of my way heading to Nashville.

  • Then I puked at 3AM Saturday morning.

  • Then Trevor got arrested. I stayed in his apartment while he was booked and bailed out. Now he's facing Felony Evasion.

  • Thank god I'm back home.

If you want the whole story, call me. Although I may be too sick of telling it by then.

    One, Two, Three, Hurl!

So I've been in Nashville less than 24 hours and I already puked, and not from drinking. This sucks. Trevor and I got back about 1 last night and about 3 I woke up and cleaned everything out of my stomach. I mean EVERYTHING. I have never puked that much in my life.

I don't even know what happened. I feel ok this morning. I guess I just ate something bad. Maybe it was the bowling ally food.

Just wanted to say congratulations to a couple friends of KisforKat. First of all, Eric proposed to his girlfriend Amanda while spending a special Valentine's weekend together at The Homestead. CONGRATS!!! Love you both!

Also The Barge Inn is reporting that Neal Chambers proposed to his lovely girlfriend Judith while on vacation in Orlando, so congrats to them too. I don't know them all that well but every time I've met them they've been the most wonderful people. Neal, can't wait to hang with you guys again!

On a side note, I'm going to Nashville this weekend so if you know any great places to visit please post a comment or send an e-mail! THANKS!

    Life is good...

...but if you want to make it even better CLICK HERE

    How Much Does It Cost?

Am I a bad person or does everyone check to see how much a gift to them costs? For valentine's Day my girlfriend got me a framed picture of Yankee Stadium with four boys standing in front of it. It's the most thoughtful gift in the world. I love it and I can't wait to get it hung on my wall, but...

I was on the internet today and I decided to check to see how much she spent. In the middle of doing that I decided that it was the wrong thing to do. Who cares how much she spent on me? But in talking with some of my friends I decided that it wasn't so bad.

The logic, however flawed it might be, was to check to see how much she spent, just to make sure I outdid her. Also, they told me, I had to make sure I outdid that present any time I buy one.

This is getting a little out of hand. So, if I check am I a bad person? I say yes...I'm greedy and bad and I don't deserve a present from her ever again. Please tell me I'm over-reacting by posting a comment.

Me, On The Air And Off

So just minutes ago I got a call from one of my ex-girlfriends. She said I talked about her parents on the radio. Since she is going to school out of state, the only reason she could have known what I said is through someone else...But that's beside the point. She didn't want me to talk about her parents on the air.

The quote just for the sake of putting it out there was...
"I dated a Mormon one time, I don't think her parents liked me because I wasn't Mormon."
Talking about her parents? Yes. Giving names, addresses, phone numbers? No.

So the question is will I stop talking about her parents. No. Why would I? I didn't say anything to identify them to the listeners and I didn't say anything that was untrue or negative about them.

Let me tell you a little about radio. The broadcast won't be good if I don't put myself out there. Almost every embarrassing and special moment. The ex-girlfriend I'm speaking of was a part of my life. Her parents were a part of my life. If we bring up a topic about girlfriend's parents well guess what? If I have something that relates to the topic and it involves her parents, you're damn right I'm going to talk about them again.

The lesson here is not to censor everything you say around me. There is a limit, it's just close to the ceiling. I will use my entire life on the radio. If you're a part of my life and you're interesting, chances are you'll be on the radio too.

To the ex's parents...Sorry you didn't like being talked about on the radio...Hope you feel better about it the next time I do.

Now How about you post a comment? Please.

    Been Lazy

Sorry there hasn't been anything new. I just don't have time. In the mean time please vote on my Goatee (below) and have a nice Wednesday. New stuff tomorrow.

Give me an E, give me an A...

Go Eagles...Here's the story. I never liked the NFL. I'm a big college fan, Syracuse especially, but the pros just never did it for me. That is until Syracuse's star QB Donovan McNabb. I loved him.

When he left Syracuse was left with an OK or bad team as some would call it. I still love them but I also got to follow Mcnabb to the NFL and I quickly became and Eagles fan. I realize I don't deserve to enjoy my team winning a Superbowl because I've only been a fan a couple of years. But I'm routing whole heartedly for Philly.

    Goatee

So I've always had trouble growing a goatee. It forms OK on the outer parts of my chin, but on the inside it's light, in color and number of hairs. But my girlfriend likes it so I keep it. Now that it's grown out a little I figured I'd put it up for a vote on the website. What do you think...First the pictures, then you can vote at the bottom.

    Friday...Good title huh?

The old saying goes, thank god it's Friday...And today I thank god more than ever. This has been the longest week. How about you? It's just been stress every day. The good ratings are the only good point to my week...And it's not like the weekend is going to get any better because I'm wearing a sign on my head. I'm not going to explain that now. If you don't listen to the radio show I'm leaving you in the dark.

Maybe beer will make me feel better. If you want to see me with the sign on my head I'll be at the Kroger at the bottom of Bent Mountain for their five-o-clock beer tasting event...That is if they'll let me in with this fake tattoo on my face.

    Drink Myself Silly

Ratings are in and they're good. There probably won't be a real post today because I'll be out drinking to celebrate. That's what we do in radio. It may be different where you work but happy hour starts at 11AM in my neck of the woods.

Thanks to everyone who listens to K92.

    Just Don't Talk

That's my message to all of the local and national weather people. Do I have to remind you what happened last time there was supposed to be a major snow storm?

    That's right...Nothing.

How much effort does it take to get a weather forecast right? The age old question. And this time when I talk about meteorology I'm going to mention the TV station that said it.

WSET 13 in Roanoke and Lynchburg was the first to predict this storm Sunday when all the other stations were saying it would be clear all week. Looking at the weather map it was obvious that a system was going to move across to us...But only 13 actually said that. Now that The Weather Channel is jumping on board, WSLS 10 and WDBJ 7 are saying it too.

All of them are saying 3 to 5 inches...Guess what? It's not going to be that...Or anything like that. We're going to have the same wintry mix we've always had this year. No worse, no better.

Weather Channel Radar as of 1:48PM

Jamey Singleton on 10 was trying to explain why he was so far off with last weekend's storm. He gave a stupid explanation about how the snow tracker radar was only used to see what's going on now...But Jamey, don't you have a million other radars and that new Vipir system?...Surely one of those computers will tell you what's going to happen.

In 2005 if we can't predict the weather 5 hours before it starts, I'm amazed we're all still living.

    Is it Summer yet?

As much as I tell myself I love the winter, the snow, the cold crisp air. There is nothing better than a warm summer night in Virginia. I don't even know why I think about the summer in February...it just depresses me.

I love it. I love the trees full of leaves, the water at Smith Mountain Lake...the way beer flows down my throat with no resistance. Name one thing better than summer and I'll give you all the money in my savings account.
(I have to agree on it) Believe me...you can't.

Now maybe your perfect summer day isn't the same as mine. Let me lay it out for you. I'm sitting on a dock at Smith Mountain lake. There are boats but we're not on them yet...that comes a little later. It's about 92 Degrees, yes, 92. I like it hot and humid. There's a beer in one hand and the other is resting on the cooler just waiting like an obedient dog to grab another. I don't tan so I'm sure I'll be as red as a lobster later but that doesn't matter now, not when the sun feels so good.

That is summer to me and I can't wait for it to start again. I just keep telling myself spring is right around the corner.
    .....and winter sucks.
